Lake Simcoe area
Author: RockyJust 100km north of Toronto is the worlds largest freshwater lake which fully freezes over come winter. Lake Simcoe. Around this lake you will find picturesque countryside, along with idyllic spots of peace and quiet. This post is here mainly as a summary of what the area has to offer, the places listed below will be expanded on in features posted in the near future

To the south of lake Simcoe is Newmarket, the town which the film star and comedian Jim Carrey was born. This is a large town containing everything you’d need facility wise, with every fast food place you’d ever need as well as a large Mall named Upper Canada Mall.
To the West of Lake Simcoe is Barrie, where Horse Shoe resort is located, as well as the Ski Snow Valley park. The combination of these resorts makes Barrie a good choice whether you plan on travelling in the summer or winter, with the Horse Shoe Resort providing activities for all times of the year.
To the North of Lake Simcoe is Orillia, a town set between two lakes – Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching – It has a significant amount of history behind it – as well as a beautiful marina, park and all the local amenaties you’d ever require. One of our favourite places to drop in while you’re here would be the Mariposa Bakery
To the East, there arent many large areas of habitation, but there are large areas of country and farmland. If you are this side of the lake – there is a number of little villages and towns you may want to drive through – Beaverton, Brechin (stop at the Foodland there and look at the fresh baked bread isle for Brechin Bread.. you’ll have to be early though as it sells out fast!) and Lagoon City
There are also many places around this lake which are worth a visit – but we shall expand on these more in posts to come.
