The Vancouver Aquarium is located in beautiful Stanley Park in downtown Vancouver. So you could plan to explore the beauty of the park or visit many of the other attractions or restaurants before or after your visit to the Aquarium – making the most of your day out!
The Vancouver Public Aquarium Association was formed in 1950 by UBC fisheries and oceanography professors Murray Newman, Carl Lietze and Wilbert Clemens. It opened on June 15, 1956 after receiving the help of timber baron H.R. MacMillan, alderman and businessman George Cunningham and $100,000 from each of the three levels of government. (City of Vancouver, Province of British Columbia, Federal Government of Canada.)

Officially Canada’s first public Aquarium, the Vancouver Aquarium has become the largest in Canada and one of the five largest in North America. The Vancouver Aquarium was the first aquarium in the world to display an orca (Killer Whale). Other whales and dolphins on display included belugas, narwhals and dolphins.

While you’re in the Aquarium, why not stop off at its much recommended Café – even here, the money made from the food and drink goes directly into maintaining the high levels of care for the animals under the aquarium’s care – so you get to sit, relax, enjoy some good food and know it’s all for a good cause!

Like most Aquariums, they run a daily schedule of special events from dolphin shows to otter talks, and they do them regularly throughout the day, so if you miss one, you wont have too long before you can attend the next one! – for the full updated schedule check out this link It’s at these encounters you get to get up close with various aquatic wildlife – including dolphins and even beluga whales! – again you can see the full details of these encounters at their website here

Over all, this is a spectacular park with some great attractions and certainly worth adding into your Holiday if you’re in Vancouver!!
